Prince Rupert is a city at the port in British Columbia, Canada. It is located on Kaien Island and is the water, air, and land transportation hub of the North Coast of British Columbia. According to statistics carried out in Canada in the year 2011, Prince Rupert has a population of 12,508. It is a recreational and cultural center and a significant stop for cruise lines which travel between Alaska and British Columbia. The rainforests, islets, and waterways which surround Prince Rupert offer visitors a chance to explore nature and get out in a setting that is inspiring and amazing. In 10th March 2010, the city got incorporated and named Prince Rupert of the Rhine after Hudson’s Bay Company first governor. This happened as a result of the Grand Trunk Railway’s open competition. There is the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park which is the site of a volcanic eruption that happened around 250 years ago. Thousands of lives were claimed by this eruption which in addition to this, two First Nation villages got destroyed. Currently, the park is managed jointly by British Columbia Parks and Nisga’a First Nation and distinctively combines natural history with cultural heritage. The landscape is breathtaking with lava beds that are contorted with no vegetation yet with mountains that are jagged snow-capped rimming the valley making it look less than the real thing and more resembling a painting.

Dining and amenities In Prince Rupert

After a tiring and long day of exploring, there are restaurants at Prince Rupert that offer guests a variety of sitting and relaxing areas. The outstanding hotels are around Cow Bay. There are two eateries here: - Opa Sushi, which is an authentic sushi restaurant for Japanese and features preparations of freshly caught fish that is local and Cow Bay Café whose atmosphere is comfy, luxurious and provide home-style desserts and dishes. After dinner, some guests go ahead with their tour by visiting local antique and gifts shops or listening to live music at local bars. For those looking for a romantic spot, there is the Crest Hotel. There is also Inn on the Harbor Hotel for the economic guests. In addition to these hotels, Tall Trees and Eagle Close Executive Bed and Breakfast are available with self-contained apartments consisting of laundry facilities and full-size kitchens.

Being a port town, one of the most memorable experiences is arriving in Prince Rupert by British Columbia Ferries. This is because the place looks best when seen from the water. Their sailing route connects the North Coast with the Vancouver Island passing by the villages of Klemtu, Shearwater, and Bella and through a series of extended inland channels. The rest is coastal wilderness that is untouched. In addition to the ferries, one can get around via rail. Once one settles in the train, they can interact and move around with fellow passengers, have dialogues with the staff or one can just get lost in their thoughts from the admiration of the beautiful sceneries. The route by train drives from the Western side of the park town of Jasper, over the Robson Valley, veering through the Northern New Hazelton and Burns Lake, following the Fraser River into Prince George. Finally, it tracks west alongside the Skeena River via Terrace to Prince Rupert. Road trips are also used to get around in Prince Rupert. These are a whole lot of fun too because for instance, unlike while using the other means, with road trips involve random stops and one can see signposts up-close. The Yellowhead Highway is the only road into Prince Rupert. Once one is in Prince Rupert, there are numerous options that one can use to move around. For example, public city buses which maneuver through the city and North Pacific Cannery site. Also, rental cars and taxis are available. Alternatively, one can walk to their various destinations.

According to Henry Miller, “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” While stepping into an unfamiliar place, even the ordinary is rendered extraordinary. The journey to Prince Rupert is a fundamental part of the travel and nonetheless how one ends up there, the experience is guaranteed to etch itself in one’s memory.

One is likely to see whale species; humpback and orca, en route. The sightings get regularly announced by the captains over the loudspeaker. Also, a tourist can see the tiny historic settlements, beautiful lighthouses and canneries that were abandoned which slowly slip into the sea.

Some hotels are swanky and glamorous also; they overlook the harbor. Being a compact city, one is close to all what they need wherever they stay in Prince Rupert.
